James Blunt – You’re Beautiful

I just bought a new song of iTunes: James Blunt – You’re Beautiful. You can check out the music video here or listen to a sample. Not too sure why I like this song, but I think it’s because of his voice. The tone and pitch is a bit different and it had a nice rhythm. Think I first saw this during the MTV Europe Awards 2005 and for some reason I kept thinking about the song last night and ended up buying it. Hehe.

James Blunt - You're Beautiful

For some reason, there was an explicit and clean version. So I looked up the lyrics and found out apparently, there was one bad word in it:

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I’m sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won’t lose no sleep on that,
‘Cause I’ve got a plan.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Fucking high,
And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.
You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it’s time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Turns out instead of saying fucking high, the clean version says flying high.

SPL 殺破狼

Watched SPL (殺破狼) today. Movie was actually pretty bad. Not really sure why I sat through the entire movie. Maybe it was because it felt like it could’ve redeemed itself. Just a lot of fighting and kilings with no meaning. You can watch the trailer at the official site listed above. I’ll admit the style was interesting and the fighting choreography was really nice, but the storyline just plain out sucked.

SPL

Spoilers:

The story begins with a court case and an accident. The biggest crime lord in Hong Kong has been caught and pending the trial, he’s most likely going to be going to jail. However, the witness, on route to the court, was killed in a car accident, planned by the crime lord of course. The witness was even surrounded by 4 police officers. Of course the crime lord is set free since there was not enough evidence once the witness is dead. The main inspector also found out that he had brain cancer after getting checked up after the accident. Chances of curing it are slim.

The story fast forwards 3 years and now and that main inspector is about to retire. His team is sad to see him leave. Some time ago, he sent an undercover into the crime lord’s gang. Also, a new inspector has been assigned to lead his team and he’s been following the inspector around. I’m not sure if I’m using the term inspector, correctly. It could may as well have been lieutenant. Anyway on his last day, this undercover gets murdered and he had promised everyone on his team that no one would get hurt. So of course the team was really demoralized to see one of them killed. At this time, someone recorded the whole incident on tape and brought it to the police. However, it clearly showed the crime lord beated up the guy with a golf stick, but it was someone else who killed him. So the rest of the movie is about trying to frame the crime lord, but implanting evidence, destroy duplicates of the tape, and etc. However, their plan fails and the crime lord promises to have everyone of them killed that night and that does happen, besides the captain and the new guy. Just a lot of sensless killing and at the end it didn’t really resolve anything. Thanks to Donnie Yen’s amazing fighting skills, he gave up his police badge and gun and beat the crime lord in a match, I think killing him in the end. I do have to admit, I might’ve watched the China version where the last 5 minutes were cut to make it “politically correct”. The ending was horrible, just horrible.

Random Crap:

VLC Media Player 0.8.4 is out! It’s my backup player when Media Player Classic doesn’t work, since it seems the best at playing random crap, but has a somewhat bad user interface. The preference and option settings always take me forever to figure out what to do, but one great thing about it is you can play xvid or divx files before they finish downloading, which most players can’t.

No-Flush Urinals Just Waiting for Plumbers (from /.) – I’ve actually never knew waterless urinals existed. I did know that urinals with 2 settings for flushes existed. A half flush for pee and a full flush for poop. But check out what a waterless urinal looks like: Waterless. You can see a simple diagram of how it works here. Seems like an intriguing idea and places have already started implementing these. The flush-free fixtures hanging on the restroom wall look good. The place smells good. The users’ reviews sound good. … Conservationists say the average no-flush urinal can save as much as 24,000 gallons of water a year. They say that the liquid sealant keeps dangerous bacteria as well as bad smells from the restroom without a need for water. Plumbers on the other hand are arguing because of sanitary reasons, waterless urinals aren’t that great of a choice, but that could also be because they might be losing a lot of customers if everyone takes the waterless urinal route, putting many of them out of work.

Black Cat Episodes 6-7

Black Cat is actually getting better despite what I originally thought based on the previous few episodes. And the kids that showed up in these 2 episodes are so adorable and cute. One even goes, “Did you make a promise with your boyfriend?”, even though they’re only like 7 or 8 years old.

Spoilers:

In these last 2 episodes, a lot has happened. It begins with #1 trying to either convince #13 Train Heartnet to return to Chronos or to be killed. Train wants neither. You also see Creed’s weapon in its true form. His sword apparently is invisible and can extend upon his command. You also see the 1st introduction of a Taoist, a clan which Chronos believe has been exterminated over 200 years ago. This Taoist seems to be able to control insects really well, however the song sung by Saya threw him off. Creed believes Saya has placed a spell on Train and calls her a witch for bewitching him, which leads to the conclusion of this episode, the killing of Saya. Saya had made Train promise to watch fireworks with her, but she got there a bit early and helped some kids win some toys and candy at the carnival. While she was looking for a spot for the best view, Creed comes up and attacks her. It was pretty much one sided. Even when Saya shot him, Creed didn’t seem to be affected. She was also trying to protect the kids that came to thank her, but came at a bad time. As Saya laid there and before Creed killed her, Train shows up. At this point, it seemed Saya was a lost cause, but she begged Train to protect the train, which led to an amazing fight.

In the following episode, you learnt there was an explosion during the fight and Sven and Eve found Train protecting the kids, which only ended up getting light burns. When Train woke up, he asked where Saya was, but neither Eve nor Sven knew who he was talking about. There wasn’t anybody else at the scene when they found him. Train asked for his gun, but Eve wouldn’t give it to him, but instead gave him a plush kitten which the kids asked if they could give to Train for protecting them. Train just threw the kitten on the floor. One really wonders at this point what happened to Saya. You know she couldn’t have died, since she’s on the opening credits and ending credits and seems to be 1 of the 4 who will eventually form a team. My guess was Creed took her so he can force Train to join him later on. At this point, the introduce another Chornos Number, #7. He was basically given the assignment of killing Eve which #13 Train did not finish before leaving Chronos. At this point, Eve was reading Aesop’s Fables and learnt about how the mice try to put a bell around the cat’s neck so they could hear the cat whenever it tried to come get them. So Eve decided to try to put a bell on Train (nicked name Black Cat) for being a bad cat. Train resisted and eventually threw the bell out the window. He also said many hurtful things such as that Eve was also a killer and she also tried to kill him. Sven returns and finds Eve missing. Sven scolds Train for hurting Eve’s feelings and tells him that it was Eve that found him after the explosion and was also the one that tended him for the week he was out cold and recovering. If Sven finds out Eve’s feelings were hurt, he’d be the first one to come after Train. Sven leaves and goes look for Eve. At this time, Eve meets #7 which nicely requests that she follow him. Eve doesn’t comply and actually transforms her arm into a dagger/cleaver. However she still gets caught in the web of strings, apparently his weapon. Eve tries cutting the strings, but because it was made from orichalcum.

At first I thought this was a made up element for this anime, but apparently wikipedia states: Orichalcum is a legendary metal mentioned in several ancient writings, most notably the story of Atlantis as recounted in the Critias dialogue, recorded by Plato. According to Critias, orichalcum was considered second only to gold in value, and was found and mined in many parts of Atlantis in ancient times. By the time of Critias, however, it was known only by name. It is not known for certain what orichalcum was. Orichalcum (or Aurichalcum) literally means “gold copper”. It is alternatively held to be a gold/copper alloy, a copper-tin or copper-zinc brass, or a metal no longer known to man. In later years, “orichalcum” was used to describe chalcopyrite or brass. However, these are difficult to reconcile with the text of Critias, because he states that the metal was “only a name” by his time, while brass and chalkopyrite continued to be very important through the time of Plato until today. For that reason, other authors on the subject conclude that orichalcum is either the gold-copper alloy tumbaga, or a metal that is, in the words of Critias, “known only by name today, but was once more than a name.” Doesn’t sound like a strong alloy to me, but who knows. Are any gold alloys that are actually strong? I don’t recall brass being that strong either.

Anyway, back to the story. At this time, you hear a bell ring and Train shows up with the bell around his neck. They battle out. Train’s bullets were easily sliced with the strings, but apparently his gun Hades is made of Orichalcum too and they end up at a draw. At this time, #7 retreats and Train and Eve returns back to the cabin and have dinner. Sven returns after hours of searching only to find them eating.

Spoilers:

In episode 7, Lime meets a fairy named Lido which no one else can see. Lorelei explains that maybe it’s because it requires the purest of hearts to see fairies. Lido was really lonely and was very happy that finally someone could see her. Lime promised to be her friend and she was extremely happy. They played and sang and ran around for a day or 2. Lime says let’s play again tomorrow, but the fairy tells Lime that it was time to say goodbye and she could no longer stay and play. Lido thanks Lime for the wonderful time and that she finally made a friend before she had to go. Lido then disappears. Lime runs around town asking if anyone’s seen Lido, but no one knew who she was talking about. Not even Otaru really believed her. Lime finally ends up back at the lake where she first met Lido and sang the song thatLido sang. Lido suddenly reappears above the lake and says she was really happy that Lime remembers her song. She once again thanks Lime and disappears. Lime dives into the lake and finds a small glowing treasure box. She brings it up and meets up with Otaru and the other marionettes as they were looking for her. She opens the treasure box and the fairy shows up and music begins to play. Apparently it’s a music box and it was low on battery, but somehow was transmitting radio waves that only Lime could read. Suddenly, the boy we saw searching for something shows up and thanks Lime for find his music box. It was his father’s last gift before dying. He had brought it to camp several years ago and lost it. When he got back in town this time, he’s been searching for it. At first Lime resisted in giving away her new friend, but finally relented in the end.

In the following episode, we learn that due to an accident, one of the pods carrying a new baby clone was dropped into the river. Cherry happened to find it and inside she finds a tiny very cute baby. She starts having dreams about Otaru being the father and how Otaru says he wanted more kids. She even named the baby Kotaru. However, things turn bad when she became overly attached to the baby and wouldn’t give him up, even when Otaru demanded. The ending of this episode showed Cherry being surrounded and the baby starts crying, and by mother’s instinct, she started breast feeding him and everyone was shocked. Do remember, this was a society with no human females and all birth was done by cloning. Everyone was surprised with the motherly scene, and at the end Cherry returned the baby.

Spoilers:

This episode was basically had 3 objectives, reunite the broken family, crack the data stolen from the labs, and continue the side story of the journalist. As you know, Rick was having a hard time dealing with the lost of his father. He wouldn’t eat and locked himself inside his room. Kai tried to convince him to come out and talked about what father used to say about welcoming tomorrow with a smile. The sun may set everyday, but you can always expect it to rise in the east the following day. Saya was also confused, but she determined that she’d like to find out about her past and requested help from her servant Haji. Kai then went on to asking Rick to imagine what Saya was feeling if Rick was already feeling this bad. It was Saya’s blood that killed father. Rick finally slowly accepted the fact and came out and all 3 kids were happily reuinted.

On the other hand, the cracking of the data and the journalist occured simultaneously. Both leads ended up with some school in Vietnam where there was a package delivered from there. What they don’t know but people who’ve seen Blood – The Las Vampire know that’s the school Saya was at when she went off in a killing spree of vampires. It’s interesting now to see what’s going to happen next!

The Myth Bloopers

I finally got around to upload the The Myth Bloopers. I also uploaded a 2nd file which includes the bloopers from The Myth (神話) and the music video which I found at the end: The Myth Bloopers (Long). I finally saw the Cantonese version, though half of it was still in Mandarin (to make it more legit I suppose). I still really like the scene right before Jackie Chan goes off to the battle, and as promised, here it is: The Myth – Before Battle (direct download). Enjoy!

Here’s the script of the dialog occuring if you don’t understand Mandarin: (Jackie Chan is General Mung)

General Mung: Soldiers of the Mung Clan, listen!
General Mung: If you still have parents, stand out!
General Mung: If you’re an only child, stand out!
General Mung: If you have a wife or kids, stand out!
General Mung: Anyone that stood out, you’re responsible for guarding the camp. Everyone else, mount your horse!
Nangong Yan: General! We’ve shared pride and honor for many years already, why can we not fight to death together when the time has come?
Nangong Yan: Nangong Yan swears to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!
Soliders: We swear to follow the General until death!

I didn’t like a lot of the translations that they provided, so I made some of my own. Though it may not be the best, I hope it’s adequate.

Vancouver Day Trip

Went to Vancouver today with a couple of friends: stanman, Joe, and Saran (the guys I had Thanksgiving dinner with). Had a really good time. Joe was the driver, so much prop for him. Drive took about 2.5-3hrs, wasn’t bad. We started by having dim sum at a place called Floata in Old Chinatown (not the new one in Richmond). Anyway, I was QUITE disappointed with the quality of the food (not the service, but there was that weird waiter). The quality of the restaurant, although recommended by many websites, was subpar to even the level of Southern California. Last time I went to a place called Sun Sui Wah in Richmond and that dim sum was a lot better. After dim sum, we walked around ChinaTown for a bit looking for a martial arts store to check out swords and stuff. When we got there, it showed a sign that said “Be back in 3 minutes”. We chilled at the nearby Dr. Sun Yat Sen Park looking for fish (couldn’t find any though). We also got to see some demonstration against I’m guessing the current mayor for making false promises. When we came back to the martial arts store, the sign changed to “Out to lunch. Be back in 1 hr.” Obviously we left.

We went to Stanley Park next. Stanley Park claimed to be the 3rd largest urban park in North America, which got me thinking, which one’s #1 and #2? Saran thinks Central Park in New York is the largest followed by Golden Gate park in San Francisco. If anyone can confirm, that’d be nice. Anyway, the park was really big and nice. It was basically in a pennisula and had beaches and hiking trails and totem poles. A great place for some outdoor recreation. We walked along the border, checked out the city from afar, strolled along the beaches, took pictures, and just chilled. You could see more pictures of the park in my photo album. Link should be provided near the bottom.

After Stanley Park, we drove along the beach and took a ferry to Granville Island. Granville Island was more of a shopping place with tons of little shops and street performers. After Granville Island, we took the ferry back and drove all the way to Gastown. They had these very pretty street lamps, different from any other part of the city and apparently that’s how you tell where Gastown starts and ends. The famous steam powered clock was also there and we actually got to hear it chirp or play a tune or whatever they called it.

After Gastown, we drove to Davie St since Saran says that’s the street where a good selection of restaurants were. After walking around for awhile, we wanted to try that greek place, but there was a line of people waiting outside and we didn’t want to get home that late, so we tried this other Japanese restaurant which Saran also tried. It was sushi buffet but was by order, which totally reminded me of Sushi Chardonnay back in San Francisco which cari and decathanerd always took me to. The quality of sushi was good. The selection was actually a lot bigger than Chardonnay’s. It had 4 types of sushi (well 3 + sashimi). It had the nigiri (slice of meat on top of rice), sushi rolls, sushi cones, and sashimi. Three types of sashimi were available: Salmon, Tuna, and Toro (fatty tuna). The sides were also interesting ranging from oysters to calamari to tempura to soba/udon to ice cream. Cost was only CAD$19 which is only US$16.25. Tax is also cheaper in Canada, with food service tax being 7%.

Apparently, there’s 3 levels of sales taxes in Canada. There’s the PST+GST, which you have to pay for anything non-food related, like electronics. Then there’s the GST which you have to pay for processed food, such as restaurants or fried chicken. Then there’s food that didn’t require cooking or something like that which is tax-free like USA. I’m guessin GST = General Sales Tax and PST = Provincial Sales Tax, but I may just be pulling that out of my *cough*.

So that ends our trip to Vancouver. I’m pretty sure a lot more happened and many many interesting conversations came up, but it’s too late and I don’t remember. hehe.

Took some pictures (not many), but you can check it out in my photo album.

When I got into my own car to drive home, there was actually ICE on my windshield. Wasn’t much, but I’d say it was about 3mm thick or so. Using my windshield wipers didn’t work. I actually turned on the defroster at high heat and after awhile, you could actually see slushy being formed.

Only thing I was worried about during the entire trip was Audrey the dog. She was basically alone in the house for 16hrs and who knew what type of damage she could do. I was actually sorta expecting the worse where she somehow managed to break the chain off and destory my apartment. I was also expecting her to actually poop and pee on the floor. The worse of my nightmares didn’t come true, but the 2nd closest thing did. Before I left this morning, I took her on a 15min walk to try to get the pee and poop out of her. She only took a piss, so I thought she didn’t have anything. But before I left, she started squirming like crazy (the squirm that either indicates she’s really hungry, she’s needs to use the restroom, or she wants some major attention), but I really needed to go since we setup a time to meet beforehand. So I was hoping she just wanted some major attention and left her. However as I noted, Audrey was always on my mind (not the good part of my mind). Somehow typing that phrase reminded me of the song in my head, “Always in my mind…. Always in my mind.” Anyway, back to the story. This was @ 6:40am in the morning and she was whining and barking. I hope it didn’t wake up my neighbors. I come home and and find piss on the carpet, not too bad, I’ve dealt with that before, but she looked like she really needed to go badly, so I took her for a walk, this time all the way to the park and back (takes about 30mins) and she took 2 dumps and 2 pisses. Hopefully clearing her system. I come up and feed her and lock her in the bathroom while I clean up. Then I noticed the poop smudges. Not a poop, but like it was about to come out and it smudged the carpet (sorta like how when you try to keep poop in your butt, but some of it comes out and smudges your underwear). Anyway, I took care of that with some AJAX. Was easier to clean than what I expected it to be like. Anyway, even after taking her for a walk and feeding her, she continues to jump, bark and whine. So I get pissed at this point and tie her outside literally for 30mins without answer her whines. And lemme tell you, she whined the entire 30 minutes (you’ll find out why later). Somehow she managed to trapper herself by going in circles around a pillar (twice!) and couldn’t untie the knot. I help her untie it and bring her back in and she’s been quiet ever since. I think that’s probably what I’m going to do when she starts whining again for no reason.

Wait’ Til You’re Older 童夢奇緣

Watched Wait’ Til You’re Older (童夢奇緣) today. You can watch the trailer here. At first I didn’t think much of this movie. Seemed like another movie to waste my time on. Only reason I’d watch it was because Andy Lau was in it and that I happened to get ahold of a Cantonese version. However, the movie turned out to quite a surprise. It basically involved a kid who wouldn’t forgive his father and wanted to grow up faster. However, many stuff left unsaid creates a wonderful story I’d recommend that you’d see.

Spoilers:

The story starts off with a little boy hating his father. At first you learn that his current mom is his stepmother and sometime later on you find out that the mom actually suicided and he’s blamed his father and his stepmother ever since. This little boy was especially naughty, running away from home a few times every week. He would go back to the old house and hide there and await for his father to come. He demanded that either he bring back mom or pay him HK$300. He was collecting money so he could one day run away for good.

However, one day, the stepmother got so pissed with the shenanigans, that she actually threw him outta the house. At this point, he meets an old man in the park which claims he’s invented a potion that’ll allow things (including humans) to grow up faster. The man wouldn’t give it to the boy, so the boy ends up stealing it. Immediately the next day, he grows up to become a 20yr old man. There was a side story with him trying to date his teacher and him helping out his friend, but that wasn’t too important to the plot.

Later on, he actually gets to see the other side of his father. Since the father didn’t know he had grown up, so he was able to talk to him about things that he’d never tell his son. During a flashblack, you learnt that the son and mom actually both tried to commit suicide by eating a poisonous cake. However, doctors were able to save the boy, but not the mom. The more he hung out with his father, the better he thought of him and really wanted to apologize for hurting him so much. One thing to note, is that the potion wasn’t a one time deal. He was growing at a rapid rate. By the 3rd or 4th day, he was already getting white hair. One time, the father brought back this older version of his son for dinner and he starts provoking his stepmother, asking why she was the third wheel in the relationship. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! Suddenly, the mother cracks and starts blurbing out the truth. It turns out this boy’s real mom was a mistress, and his father was long married to this woman before meeting his mom. The mother couldn’t stand sharing this man with another woman, so she decided to kill herself, along with her son. However, since the son survived, the only thing the father could do was to bring him into his current family. However, because the son never knew the truth and because the father didn’t want him to know the truth and ruin the image of his mother, the boy was always angry at the wrong thing. After learning this, he wanted to become small again and rushed to the old man in the park. There he begged him to give him the potion to make him smaller. The old man says, “There is no such potion, but it’s never too late. Spend the remainder of your time wisely, and you won’t regret your life.” He tells his father the truth and even manages to bring the family back together by apologizing to his stepmother for his mother. The ending was a bit weird. I was really expecting him to wake up from a dream…, but the credits just started to roll up.

Audrey Hates Me

Despite what you may be thinking, Audrey is cdmcc’s and Elizabeth’s dog. Cdmcc and Elizabeth went back to San Francisco this Thanksgiving and asked me to look over their dog for them while they were gone. So the reasons why I never wanted a pet dog or puppy, although they’re so cute, is all showing up in Audrey. So I was warned that Audrey likes biting stuff, but I didn’t know that biting involved such wreckage. When I got home on Wednesday after cdmcc dropped Audrey off and we locked her in my bedroom, I find my window blinds shredded to pieces, and by that, I mean over 50% of them were torn off the actual blinds and broken into bits and pieces. So yah, she’s no longer allowed near anything that is even remotely breakable. I actually have her tied to a pole in the restroom which gives her about 8ft raidus to move about, much more lenient than what I think I should be restraining her to. So I’m going to have to talk to the management about getting that replaced. For now, I have a bed sheet covering the window.

Before, I had her tied to the cage and not a pole, so she actually managed to pull the cage some distance and reach areas which I didn’t want her to reach. Thank god, she only got access to several grocery plastic bags, but when I got home today, they were shredded like there was no tomorrow. I’m also happy that I fixed the door to my computer room before I left because before the door wouldn’t close properly and you could push and it’ll open. Somehow, she managed to get my laundry doors opened, but those were sliding doors (sort of).

Next thing is Audrey actually peed on the floor. I guess I shouldn’t have given her such a big bowl of water. She’s already peed 3x on my floor, though cleaning it up wasn’t that bad. She hasn’t pooped on my floor yet and has been keen about pooping when I take her on her walks, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she takes a dump in here too.

The final annoying thing is she always seem to need attention whenever she sees someone. She would even bark and howl if you ignore her, and that got quite annoying at 2am in the morning.

I feel bad about tying her to the restroom. In fact, I originally locked her in the bathroom, but felt bad and I couldn’t figure if I should leave the light on or off, so I opened the door and gave her a bit more freedom. Welp, only 4 more days to go. Hopefully I’ve seen the worse of it.
