Car Trouble

met a rather interesting family today in the garage, they were pushing their car outta the garage. i offered to help and they said, u can help starting by moving out of the way. i was thinking, “okay, not going to help u guys then. your lost” as i was leaving, i asked if the car was down, and they laughed, “Oh no! it’s just the car is so big and the parking lot is so tight, we didn’t want to run into the pillars or other cars. so we thought by pushing we’d get more control.” i responded with a simpled word: kewl. and the lady snapped back, “not cool!” weird encounter i must say.

Thanks to ungsunghero for point this out: CNN: Global goofs: U.S. youth can’t find Iraq. this article shows how dumb our society is when 11% of 18-24 yr olds can’t point out where USA is on a world map. i mean COMON! this is where u bust out your Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego skillz. that game was so fun. i remember i would skip recess everyday and play with my friend Ivan. sigh… haven’t seen Ivan for so long i dont even know where he is anymore. But play Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego was so exciting. it was actually something i looked forward to go to school for. playing in our class’ apple IIe computer. hehe.

cunndogg just told me some very interesting facts about Canada and England. Supposedly, Canada is still an British Colony and the Queen is still holds the executive power. She gets to appoint who the governor or Canada is and can dissolve the parliament at her will. i always thought she was just a symbolic icon but supposedly cunndogg says she can dissolve Britain’s parliament too. she just doesn’t use her power. and to think i always thought the prime minister had the most power. another interesting fact is u know how Canadians talk by adding and -ay to end of their sentence. (ie. What’s up-ay? How’s it going-ay? You the man-ay) so when deciding their name for their country or colony, the picked up random letters from a hat and the guy reading off the letters said: C-ay, N-ay, D-ay and there you have today’s spelling of Canada. hehe ^_^x

here’s something i learned i found very funny. in programming we often use the variable foo and i thought it was just a random word made up from nowhere. but apparently there’s some history behind it. the word foo was said to be extracted from fubar (foo-bar) which stands for ‘f*cked up beyond all recognition’. i find this fact very amusing. hehe. ^_^x

Bicycle Stunt

what do you think about getting to the LAX airport from Monterey Park in 15 minutes? fast huh? too bad that wasn’t me. hehe. took me 30mins to get there and thank god there wasn’t much traffic. my dad hasn’t been busting my chops on my driving skills anymore. i wonder why…

well, i met an interesting guy @ the airport. i was using my laptop with my wireless nic stuck in (obviously the wireless nic wasn’t doing anything since there’s no Access Points @ the airport, but i noticed that if i kept it in, it’ll stop it from auto-shutting down). well, he asked if i had any connection in here and i told him my story. he says cool and somehow i told him he i was going to berkeley and he told me he graduated majoring in CS. i asked if he was a berkeley graduate but he said no, and replied that he actually graduated from the University of India. he asked if BSD was still around and i said yep. then we went our own ways. ^_^x

I’ve seen many donation buttons lately and cunndogg actually showed me an article of a woman paying back her $20,000 of debt just by asking for donations. here’s the article on CNN. well, for anyone that has the money to support a poor college student, i’d be more than happy to accept it. -_^x

while i was going off to cs discussion today. there were this biker. guess he was either late or trying a new stunt. he jumped off the stairs with his bike and when he landed, he slipped off his seat and fell smack on the metal bar between his legs. @ this pt, i was cringing also. OUCH! i’d like to show you ungsunghero’s response when he heard this:

New Pets – Canaries

welp, after my laptop auto-shutdown for the 50th time, i was about to give up on it. life sucked, i couldn’t find my stupid restore cd and tech support was no use. then suddenly, outta no where, the cd popped out! i formatted the hard drive and restored it to factory standards and no more auto-shutdown! w00h00. since it was a new computer, i decided to turn it into a ibook. here’s the screenshot. from now on, it’s going to be called: babykrunk – ibook. hehe.

i just brought back all the dvds i’ve accumulated over the first 2 months (which were sent home) with me to berkeley. my kenshin dvd collection is almost complete. just missing vol 21 and 22.

Comprimising University Security Networks

nothing much happened today. was rather boring in fact. oh well.

welp, for those that live i socal, the deal is back! $29 one way from OAK to LAX/BUR. buy your tickets early for winter break or else you know what! u snooze, u looze. ^_^x unlike before where the $29 was only for a roundtrip, you can now purchase it as One-Way. canceling one of my flights was easier than ever. called them up, gave them my confirmation # and BOOM, i was done. $75 credit applied to my new purchase of $37.50 ($29+tax+fees) = $37.50 left for next flight. wondering why i bought a flight and then canceled? well i original have a ticket for 12/19 – 1/10. but i decided to extend my return date to 1/18. so i called up SouthWest (bleh, forgot to mention this was @ SouthWest the whole time) and they told me if i wanted to cancel the 2nd flight, i’d have to fly the first flight and call back to cancel. i said, cool, but i still needed a return flight, so a i bought a new ticket for 1/18 – 1/30 (since the cheap fare required a roundtrip). well, after reading the newsletter i received today, i called in did my work. you may be scared your first time canceling your ticket, but after the first time and noticing how nice and ez it is, it’s something actually fun to do! well, not fun, but no longer afraid of. hehe. ^_^x

Japander

lost my red notebook today. was so worried. it’s like my personal diary, which really is just paper for me to jot down notes, draw doodles, draw more doodles, and do hw. i was about to give up after checking 3 lost&found places where it could’ve been. then @ home, i found it sitting on the shelf! YIPPEE! have you ever lost something which you value more than yourself? you become really depressed. this notebook wasn’t that particular item, but i can recall i’ve lost invaluable items such as hippo & data on my hard drive. remind me to post up my hippo memorial wallpaper for u guys. ^_^x

Turn Windows XP Interface Into Mac OSX

welp today was fun! celebrated not only carii’s bday, but also CD’s bday. didn’t even know that till we went to dinner. hehe. ohfuee had some cool card tricks up his sleeves. pretty hard to describe and it’s much better in person anyway.

belldandy (aka karen – aka Steven IRL) posted this link up. it’s a pretty cool website. has some really nice wallpapers and if you’re a mac fan, it tells you how to completely turn your windows XP interface into a mac osx interface which i thought was pretty cool. but too bad i’m no mac fan. ;p

New Linux Computer

went to sleep @ 7, woke up @ 4. found out i had a bug in my project. fixed it in 15mins. then a friend requested help, and stayed for an extra 1.5hrs. welp, that’s what friends are for ^_^x

as cunndogg pointed out, i made a mistake on the specs of our new workstation. in fact it is only a XP1600+ and not a XP2000+. but plans to overclock this baby is progress and supposedly this is easily overclockable to 2100.

welp, cunndogg and i had our first cooking experience (besides boiling pasta, instant noodles, microwave/oven pizza) today and i’ve gotta say it turned out 100x better than what i expected. we were planning to goto Barney’s for a milkshake celebration, but they closed @ 10. andronicos was next door so we went in and picked up some items to make dinner with. we marinated some lamb (forgot which part of the lamb it was) with pineapple sake teriyaki sauce. We also added A1 Steak Sauce, and Tiger Sauce (similar to Tabasco) to spice up the taste. we stir-fried the lamb in olive oild and then added red/green bell peppers and carrots. put that on rice and we got ourselves a tasty meal. an oil shot into cunndogg’s eye during this experiment, but that was the only bad part. oooh, forgot to add 7-up w/ black berry torani. are u drooling yet? hehe ^_^x

after several days of attempts to install linux and near the verge of giving, we finally did it. stupid nvidia and their proprietary nforce drivers caused us install different distributions of linux. we’ve tried RedHat 7.3, SuSE 8.1, RedHat 8.0 and all has failed. Mandrake 9.0 and Slackware were sitting in my hd waiting in case RedHat 7.3 failed again. but thanks to the help on nvnews forums, we were finally able to get it up and running. now on to trying to get the network card to work!

First Linux Computer

BOO!

tonite’s halloween so u guys go enjoy yourselves! there’s nothing wrong with partying all nite long (unless you have a midterm next week which i do + that stupid project due on friday nite!!!) generally, ppl would post those scary websites where it gets your attention then suddenly a pale face of a dead girl pops up. but that is so overused now and personally i think it’s not really that funny. scary and shocking, but not funny. hehe.

our computer case finally came today! w00h00! it’s setup and running but still lacks an operating system. We’re trying to get RedHat 8.0 running on it right now (download in process – 5 cds). here’s the current specs of our system:

Daylight Savings Time on IRC

sigh, today’s game was extremely disappointing. giants were up 5-0 and lost it in the 7th and 8th inning. 6-5 angels win and tomorrow’s game will decide who the the winners of the world series is. ortiz was awesome, but something happened with their bullpen today. it was like they were outta it or something. and angels got lucky! =( anyway GO GIANTS!!!

btw, i’m disappointed in all of you. thanks to n0rybic for pointing it out that my link to the dotphoto site no long works. it is no fixed and should work. so many of you and no one told me… sigh…

there’s this new anime that is really cool. it’s called naruto and lsiymle claims it’s better than Hikaru no Go. it’s starting out pretty good. here’s the opening and ending songs for you to enjoy.

today cunndogg and i went to ikea to get our computer table. scored a pretty good deal. got this table for $40:

hen we went over to some rug outlet/depot place to check out some rugs/carpets. who knew rugs would be SOOOO EXPENSIVE!?!?! well, cunndogg knew, but it looked like the minimum was ~$200 for something decent to cover 8×5′. we’re looking for a rug so we can dampen the noise in the room. hate my apartment manager!

Kazaa 2.0 has been released awhile ago, but Kazaa Lite 2.0 has just be released. Kazaa Lite is basically Kazaa w/o the ads and spyware. recommended if you use morpheus or kazaa. download from here

cunndogg just got home really really drunk. hope he doesn’t have a headache tomorrow. oh well tomorrow will be 24hr of programming for me which will cause a massive headache. =(
