So I finally took the time to finish this series this weekend, which actually involved not going to sleep till 11am yesterday. The series finally exited out of random mode and into story mode somewhere around episode 15 and I just watched it non-stop from there. Like I said, my expectations for the series was low when it first started out, but the story was a lot more touching and emotional than I had expected. The series was good, but not as great as the original in my opinion.

9 – 26 is a lot of episodes, so what I ended up doing was just taking the screenshots of the baby Saber Marionettes instead. I’m hiding the images this time around because this IS the ending, so be warned. When you click the “show” link below, it’ll be display over 130 images.

I don’t even remember what exactly happened in the earlier episodes, because it’s been awhile since I watched those. Just didn’t feel like posting about it.

So the story really begins when a fake Faust appeared and attacks Japoness. However, the masterminds behind the attacked turned out to be ministers of a country called Xian.

The story continues, and one day Otaru wins tickets to visit Xian in a random lottery. So he and the 3 saber dolls take a vacation trip to Xian. At this point, there was a lot of equality treatment going on. He decided he’d treat all 3 saber dolls equally because he’s not able to choose a specific one. Lets roll back for a minute. He only won 2 tickets, and needed 2 more for everyone go. He ended up taking multiple work shifts and odd jobs to earn enough money to get the other tickets. The saber dolls offered to help, but Otaru denied that request and said he had to earn the tickets himself.

So everyone’s happy and take the train ride. However, the 1st day they arrived, Otaru goes down with a high fever and cold due to overexerting himself. They find a doctor (who turns out to be that evil minister) and he poisons Otaru and tells the saber dolls that Otaru’s caught a very fatal bug and only a special medicine found in the mountains which are rumored to exist can save him. The saber dolls goes out and searches for the medicine and ends up falling into his trap. Apparently they needed something in the saber dolls to continue their plan. However, Lime did manage to find the plant and Otaru was rescued.

However, 5 days later, when Otaru woke up. The saber dolls of course were missing. The only thing left was Lime’s bag and the medicine she found. Otaru goes all over the city searching for them. He manages to see Lime across the subway platform, but Lime doesn’t appear to remember him anymore. At the same time, Otaru’s been put on the wanted list for being responsible for the explosion that occurred when he was sick in bed. This really limited his movement in trying to find his 3 saber dolls. At the same time, because of the explosion, all 3 saber dolls lost their memory and had been scattered around the city with new masters.

Lime ended up working for a local clinic. Cherry ended up taking care of orphans at a temple. Bloodberry ended up helping robbers steal money.

The story continues like that for awhile as Otaru continues his search. Then in comes the circus. I’m not sure if I told you about the circus debacle that occurred where there was an acrobat in the Circus that looked very much like Otaru and the little event made Akashi (name of the acrobat) fall in love with Bloodberry. They were in town and the robbers were planning to rob from the circus and had Bloodberry check out the circus beforehand. She bumped into a clown who remembers her and asks her how she was doing, but of course she doesn’t have any recollection. The clown ended up following her back to the robbers’ hideout and overhears their plan. He reports this back to the circus crew and they made a plan to rescue Bloodberry. Bloodberry gets rescued and she’s happy in the new home.

Akashi gets arrested because he looked like Otaru and finds out about the explosion and that Otaru actually has 3 saber dolls. Akashi was pissed that Otaru could only give 1/3 of himself to Bloodberry and decides that Otaru doesn’t deserve Bloodberry. And of course at this point, Otaru learns about the circus and finds Akashi. Akashi tells him that Bloodberry is with him, but that Otaru has to decide on which saber doll to choose from. If Otaru decides that Bloodberry is the one, Akashi was more than willing to give up Bloodberry to him. But he wasn’t willing to give Bloodberry back if Otaru wanted all 3.

Story continues again, and Otaru happens to get injured while running away. A doctor picked him up and took him back to his clinic where Lime was. At this point Lime and Cherry already met, but they don’t remember each other. Cherry just comes and picks up medicine for a little boy who got injured at the temple. When Otaru wakes up and sees both Lime and Cherry, he was happy, but of course neither of them remembers Otaru. Otaru was about to tell them he was their master, but refrained because they were both happy with their new lives and did Otaru really deserve them.

He decided to leave and return to Japoness when his injury healed. However, the events took a shocking turn, when the evil ministers ordered an attack at the saber dolls. They were trying to trigger the saber dolls’ memory. When the saber dolls lost their memory, they also lost their ability to fight. So Otaru drags them away from the public and defends Lime and Cherry. However, Lime and Cherry are confused at what’s going on, and only wants to return back home. Otaru tries to stop them, but they don’t listen. More robots appear and more fighting occurs. He drags Lime and Cherry along to check out Bloodberry, but by the time he got there, the circus was already being attacked. Bloodberry managed to escape with Akashi injured. Otaru keeps on fighting, even when his injury hasn’t been fully healed and he was wounded again.

The saber dolls were shocked at why Otaru would go so far to protect them, while Otaru keeps telling them to run away. In the critical moment, the memories come back, which was to be expected. The moment was actually pretty touching when their memories came back as they released their anger on the robots for making Otaru suffer so much. Faust at this time also brought proof of Yan’s and Hesse’s evil plan and Otaru’s arrest warrant has been removed.

Otaru was put into the hands of the imperial palace doctors to tend to his wounds. However, the only thing Otaru could think about is what to do with the saber dolls. Everyone has found a new life during their amnesia which they’re content about and Akashi was right that he was greedy and wanted all 3 saber dolls to himself. Later it was found out that one of Otaru’s wound was infected and a high fever came down on him (which was a little bit too much drama in my opinion). He also hasn’t been eating, making his recovery condition worse. The saber dolls try their best to lower the fever and they succeed in the end.

While the saber dolls were waiting for an answer on who Otaru chooses, Otaru decides to coward out and leave them behind without giving them an answer. The saber dolls try to chase him down, but it was already too late by the time they got to the train station. At this time, thoughts have been going through Lime’s head on why Otaru decided to abandon them. The only answer she could come up with was that she was a marionette and not a human. So when Dr. Hesse who managed to escape, tells the 3 saber dolls that he could transfer their soul onto a real human, Lime took the bait.

The other 2 try to convince her otherwise, but it was too late. They fell into Dr. Hesse’s trap and apparently the reasoning why he needed the 3 saber dolls was because they had access to wormhole information which would take him back to Earth (Terra). Apparently Dr. Hesse is 400 years old, and was abandoned by his crew. He swore if he got the chance, he’d go and blow up earth for abandoning him. So he’s been plotting. He has a spaceship and enough nuclear power equipped on it to take out a planet. However, traveling back to earth would take too long and the saber dolls had the key to unlock a system that contained the wormhole information.

Otaru shows up and tells them, it doesn’t matter if their marionettes or human, he’d still love them the same and always. Otaru tells the 3 to pursue Dr. Hesse and tells them to promise to return, but you could tell it was more of a farewell, because they were planning to get the spaceship somewhere far in space before it explodes. While they were leaving, they all ask if he had to marry one, who would Otaru choose. Otaru shouts something inaudible, but one can only guess he’d take all 3.

On the spaceship itself, they try to convince Dr. Hesse in giving up. After going through the worm hole, the ended up in the ring of Saturn, where they found the spaceship that had carried Dr. Hesses on his first trip. According to Cherry’s speculation, his crew didn’t abandoned him, but instead, the worm hole ended too close to Saturn and just like them, they hit the ring upon exit. Dr. Hesse couldn’t believe it. All along, he’s been holding a grudge against them for something they never did or didn’t do. When he gave up the control to the saber dolls, he told them they were rays of light and did some scan on them before he died. The saber dolls managed to get the ship turned around and back into the worm hole before it exploded. Before the explosion, they were thinking about how happy their life was and what they would do if they ever got to return. The ship exploded, but also shot 3 colored lights back onto Tera 2.

I thought somehow miracously like last time, the dolls would be back. But that wasn’t the case. Somehow, Dr. Hesse was able to take the info from the the maiden circuits and beam it into the 3 master female clones, and the saber doll’s final message to Otaru appeared in 3 new born babies, with the same colored hair as them. So the rest of the story was about how Otaru is taking care of the 3 kids as his own. to pay back for the love that the original 3 gave him.

I guess this was a better ending than I had expected, but the death of the original 3 saber dolls was once again quite painful to endure, although by making them kids now, he can love all 3 equally as his kids, instead of 3 lovers/wives, which actually works out.
