{"id":899,"date":"2006-12-01T03:37:28","date_gmt":"2006-12-01T11:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.krunk4ever.com\/blog\/?p=899"},"modified":"2006-12-02T23:12:18","modified_gmt":"2006-12-03T07:12:18","slug":"how-to-run-explorerexe-as-another-user","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.krunk4ever.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/01\/how-to-run-explorerexe-as-another-user\/","title":{"rendered":"How to run explorer.exe as another user"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So with the introduction of IE7, my little hack no longer worked, which was having the following shortcut: <code>runas.exe \/u:administrator \"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\"<\/code><\/p>\n<p>With the IE7 update, when I enter C:\\ into the location bar, it actually opens up a new Explorer window, running as my current user. Before it would automatically open C: drive in the same IE window and let me browse as administrator.<\/p>\n<p>With this block, I decided to see if I could get explorer.exe to launch instead of going through iexplore.exe. Running explorer.exe from an administrator command prompt didn&#8217;t do anything. I was able to run <code>start .<\/code> and get an Explorer window opened, but that was running under me again. I search for explorer.exe switches and found this site: <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/130510\">Command-Line Switches for Windows Explorer<\/a>, however none of those switches seem to work. Calling <code>explorer.exe \/?<\/code> returned immediately without displaying any kind of help.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I just went and searched for &#8220;<em>how to launch explorer as another user<\/em>&#8221; and found this: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.derkeiler.com\/Newsgroups\/comp.os.ms-windows.nt.admin.security\/2003-11\/0035.html\">How do run Explorer as another user<\/a> which had a very useful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.derkeiler.com\/Newsgroups\/comp.os.ms-windows.nt.admin.security\/2003-11\/0037.html\">reply<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, the switch you have to pass in is <strong>\/separate<\/strong>. At first I thought it was just a fake, but then realized I was spelling sep<strong>e<\/strong>rate incorrectly. If you execute the following command: <code>runas.exe \/u:administrator \"explorer.exe \/separate\"<\/code>, you&#8217;ll be able to start explorer.exe as another user.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Random Crap<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s Japanese phrase is \u96ea (yuki) which translates to snow, since we&#8217;ve recently had a bunch of snow, but due to today&#8217;s warm weather, it&#8217;s pretty much gone. Guess I won&#8217;t be needing wheel chains anymore. Along with snow, there&#8217;s \u51ac\u4f11\u307f (fuyuyasumi) or Winter Vacation. \u51ac (fuyu) is Winter and \u4f11\u307f (yasumi) means to rest by itself, but when stuck to onto another noun like one of the 4 seasons, it means vacation.
